Imran Khan, a former prime minister of Pakistan, was shot and hurt on Thursday while speaking to demonstrators outside the town of Gujranwala. After being removed from power in April, Khan, who was sent to the hospital as a result of the event, has been striving to make a political comeback.

A shooter in the crowd started shooting as Khan addressed his audience from the back of a vehicle. Various media sites have reported that the former PM was struck in the foot or leg.

Khan was transported quickly, some 100 kilometers (60 miles) away, to a hospital in Lahore. Former leader Khan is in “stable health,” according to one of his aides, Raoof Hasan, who spoke to AFP.

Hasan continued, “This was an attempt to kill him, to assassinate him. Soon later, Pakistan’s Geo TV announced that a suspect had been detained.
