After Ronaldo appeared to knock a fan’s cellphone to the ground as he limped towards the tunnel after United’s 1-0 defeat, UK Police opened an investigation.

Following the release of video showing the Manchester United forward appearing to slam a phone out of an Everton fan’s hand during a game last season, British police have warned Cristiano Ronaldo.

Following the altercation at Goodison Park on April 9, the 37-year-old was questioned by police regarding a claim of assault and criminal damage.

“We can confirm that a 37-year-old male voluntarily came and was interrogated under caution in relation to an allegation of assault and criminal damage,” the Merseyside Police said in a statement on Wednesday.

“The allegation relates to an incident following the Everton v Manchester United football match at Goodison Park on Saturday April 9.

“The matter has been dealt with by way of conditional caution. The matter has now concluded.”

After the incident, Ronaldo issued a social media apology for his “outburst” and invited the supporter to watch a game at Old Trafford “as a sign of fair-play and sportsmanship”.

A rant followed by an apology

After the game, the Portuguese forward posted on his Instagram: “Managing emotions in trying circumstances like the one we are in is never simple.

“To be an example for all the young people who enjoy the beautiful game, we must always be respectful and patient.

As a gesture of fair play and sportsmanship, I would like to apologize for my outburst and, if it is feasible, invite this fan to witness a game at Old Trafford.

Ronaldo called the rumors concerning his future at United, which is having trouble, “false,” as they were being reported.

The Portugal forward missed the team’s preseason trip to Thailand and Australia due to personal obligations while rumors about his future at Old Trafford abounded.

Ronaldo reportedly wants to play Champions League football, but United insist he is not for sale and will continue to be an important part of Erik ten Hag’s plans moving forward.

The former Real Madrid player participated in the entire 90 minutes of Saturday’s 4-0 loss to Brentford, which sent United to the basement of the Premier League.

The United star was reportedly linked to Atletico Madrid, and Ronaldo responded to a fan account on Instagram by saying that in a few weeks, fans would “know the truth” and that “the media is lying.”
