The sad demise of Batgirl is the result of past Warner Bros. executives’ poor DCEU judgment over a ten-year period.
Batgirl’s stunning termination by Warner Bros. Discovery is a terrible result of the DCEU’s mishandling by many Warner Bros. administrations over the past ten years. The DCEU has been in an odd situation for a while, failing to commit to a certain strategy and consistently making announcements about DC movies that never materialized. Batgirl is currently bearing the most of the burden to restore the DC movie brand after years of errors.
Joss Whedon was first connected to the Batgirl movie in March 2017, just a few months before it was reported he would succeed Zack Snyder on Justice League before the film underwent lengthy rewrites and reshoots. After Justice League’s failure, Whedon withdrew from Batgirl, and the DCEU would endure a period of general disarray for a number of years. Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah were ultimately chosen to direct a new Batgirl film, however despite being far into post-production, Batgirl has been totally scrapped due to significant changes in DCEU plans and studio priorities.
Since 2016, the DCEU has been ineffective.
