House of the Dragon praised after premiere

The first Game of Thrones spinoff, House of the Dragon, premiered on July 27 at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in California, USA, with the cast and crew in attendance.

Guests at the event had the chance to see the highly anticipated production before the series premieres to general audiences on August 21.

Journalists and film critics who attended the event gave their first opinions on the series, which takes place before the events of Game of Thrones.

Steve Weintraub, a film critic from the movie-television news site Collider, said that while he didn’t like the last season of Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon was very good and he will definitely keep watching it. Weintraub said that after the first episode they presented a trailer showing the whole season and that the show looks very good.

Film critic Christina Radish also commented:

For those who are curious about the series, I can say without spoilers that it feels epic in its scope, while telling a personal and intimate story about the loves and dysfunction of a family.

Another said:

The first episode of House of the Dragon was fantastic! Can’t wait to watch the sequel.

Game of Thrones universe creator George R.R. Martin was unable to attend the event due to Covid-19.

The series will begin airing on HBO on August 21, with a new episode airing every Sunday.
