Windows 10 and 11 shock to Russia! Access is blocked

Russia, which has turned against Western technology companies after its military operation in Ukraine, seems to face a new blow from Microsoft. In social media posts, it was revealed that users living in Russia were prevented from downloading Windows 10 or Windows 11.

It is not possible to download Windows 10 and Windows 11 in Russia
As reported by the Russian news agency Tass, Microsoft has taken a new step against users in Russia. Microsoft has allegedly disabled the Windows 10 and Windows 11 download option for Russian servers. However, the fact that the company did not make any statement about this move aroused curiosity.

BleepingComputer confirmed the information shared by Tass. A Russia-based VPN connection was used and an error was received when downloading various Windows tools. These tools include Windows 10 Update Assistant, Windows 10 Media Creation Tool and Windows 11 Setup Assistant.

Tass said it believes Windows 10 and Windows 11 tools have been made unavailable in Russia. The agency wrote the following about Microsoft’s latest decision:

Russian users trying to download the Windows 10 Update Assistant, Windows 10 Media Creation Tool and Windows 11 Setup Assistant are shown the message “404 – File or Directory not found”. When trying to download Windows 10 and Windows 11 ISOs, users are shown an error message saying “There was a problem with your request”.

Although there is no official statement from Microsoft, downloading tools for Windows 10 and Windows 11 requires using a VPN that connects outside Russia.

This is not the company’s first move, though. Microsoft suspended its sales in the country in March due to the Russia-Ukraine war. It also stopped the GitHub accounts of developers connecting from Russia.
