Mexican politician burned to death for alleged child trafficking

A politician in Mexico was lynched after rumors spread in WhatsApp groups that he was responsible for the kidnapping of a child.
Daniel Picazo, 31, was beaten by a group of around 200 people in Puebla state, then dragged into a field and burned.

The incident took place during a visit to Picazo’s grandfather’s house in the town of Papatlazolco.

Meanwhile, rumors that Picazo had kidnapped a child began to spread in WhatsApp groups, according to local media.

Picazo and two others were then attacked by an angry mob.

Local police tried to intervene but their numbers were insufficient and Picazo was poured with oil and set on fire.

Authorities later recovered Picazo’s body.

“We condemn this incident and remind that crimes must be prosecuted in accordance with the law,” the city administration said in a statement.

The local government announced an investigation into the attack. However, according to local media, no one has been detained yet.

Until March, Picazo worked as an advisor to the Mexican Parliament.
