Ukraine’s President Zelenskyy signs decree on general mobilisation of population as Russian attacks continue
Martial law has been declared across Ukraine following the Russian military’s operation in the Donbass region in eastern Ukraine. According to the latest developments, an AN-26 Russian military cargo plane has crashed in the Voronezh Region of Russia. The Kremlin says Putin and Macron have had a serious and open exchange of views on Ukraine.
Russia launched military action in the morning against Donetsk and Lugansk, which declared independence from Ukraine eight years ago and have been under intense attack by Kiev-affiliated armed elements during the same period.
Martial law was declared across Ukraine after the operation. European Union (EU) Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said, “Later today, we will present a major package of sanctions to European leaders to approve.”
Meanwhile, the Ukrainian government has decided to cut diplomatic ties with Russia. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Kuleba urged all kiev’s partners to take the same step.
Stressing that this is not an ‘invasion’, but rather an effort to end the war, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov reminded that moscow’s measures and decisions on Ukraine are aimed at ensuring the safety of the Russian people.
