Social media companies Meta and Snap have been sued for supporting the 11-year-old girl’s suicide.
Social media platforms came into our lives after the internet spread around the world. Millions of shares are made through these platforms every day. Although some posts may seem innocent, they can have serious effects on people.
Research shows that young people and children in particular are very affected by social media. And for some reason, suicides can even happen. A mother has filed a lawsuit alleging that Meta and Snap contributed to her 11-year-old daughter’s suicide.

Meta and Snap are being sued for contributing to suicide!
Two major social media giants were sued on Thursday, Engagdet reported. The lawsuit was filed in the Northern District of California District Court in San Francisco. The lawsuit alleged that the companies deliberately designed their products to be addictive and invested billions of dollars to encourage problematic uses.
It’s a mother who’s making the case. The woman says meta and snap apps were instrumental in her 11-year-old daughter’s suicide. Selena Rodriguez, who committed suicide on July 21, 2021, allegedly committed suicide due to her addictive use of social media apps and prolonged exposure to shared addictive content.
According to information from Instagram and Snapchat, teens are using social media apps in a problematic way. “We are working with many mental health organizations as part of our ongoing efforts to keep our community safe,” Snapchat said in a statement.
In addition, a Snapchat spokesperson said they were very sorry. Meta has yet to comment. The charges in the lawsuit say the companies did not warn families too much about addiction, and that the apps’ designs were designed to make users addicted. Congress is also investigating the impact on young people.
This isn’t the first time we’ve looked around the world. We’ve heard this kind of news before. By raising the awareness of families about the use of social media platforms, such situations can be prevented somewhat. So, what are your thoughts?
