Pill created that eliminates the need for exercise
Australian scientists are developing a pill that can provide the body with exercise without doing any sports.
Researchers from the Australian National University (ANU) in the capital, Canberra, announced that they have detected unique molecular signals in the body and that these can be given to people who cannot do sports so that they can benefit from the benefits of exercise.
In the study published in the scientific journal Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology, it was stated that these signals are sent to our brain and potentially to our eyes immediately after exercise.
Riccardo Natoli, head of the Clear Vision Research Lab at ANU, stated that these signals can be re-coded into a pill and taken like a vitamin supplement.
Natoli said, “The useful messages sent to the central nervous system during exercise are stored in what we call lipid particles. We basically ensure that these molecular messages obtained from exercise are given to people who cannot physically exercise.”
Joshua A. Chu‐Tan, one of the scientists working in the study, which also examined the relationship between exercise and eye health, said, “We know that exercise is good for our eyesight. However, it is still unknown to what extent it is beneficial. Our aim is to understand the benefits of exercise at the molecular level and how it is beneficial for the central nervous system and retina. ‘ he said.
Scientists think this work could benefit people suffering from neurological conditions such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s in the future.
“We know from diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s that if you exercise a certain way you can potentially activate neuronal activity,” Chu‐Tan said.
On the other hand, the scientist said that it is not yet understood how this works at the retinal level, but that the progression of neurological diseases can be slowed down with future studies in this area.
The researchers stated that if such a pill is developed, it is intended to be given only to people at risk and will not be accessible to everyone.
