United Nations (UN) Secretary General Antonio Guterres condemned civilian deaths in the clashes between Armenia and Azerbaijan and called for an immediate end to the clashes.

Guterres, through his spokesperson Stephane Dujarric, expressed that he is extremely worried about the resumption of clashes between the two countries on the line of contact in Nagorno-Karabakh.

Denouncing the use of force and civilian deaths in the conflict, Guterres called on the parties to immediately end the conflict, relieve tension and return to “meaningful” negotiations without delay.

The statement also included information that Guterres will hold a phone call with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

In the morning, clashes broke out on the Armenia-Azerbaijan front line when Armenian forces opened fire on Azerbaijani civilian settlements.

Azerbaijani army launched a counterattack and liberated some settlements from occupation.
