United Airlines, one of the largest airline companies in the United States, has announced that it may take 36 thousand employees on compulsory leave due to the new type of coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.
In the message shared by the company management with its employees, it was emphasized that the history of commercial aviation was going through the most devastating financial crisis.
In the message, in which the demand for travel is low, it can not be continued with the current number of employees, and as of October 1, 36 thousand employees can be taken to compulsory leave.
It is stated that the number of employees planned for compulsory leave corresponds to approximately 45 percent of the company’s total number of employees. It is stated that the final number of employees to be put on compulsory leave will be determined according to the change in demand and interviews with the employees.
It is reported that there are around 15 thousand flight attendants and more than 2 thousand pilots among the employees who are planned to take compulsory leave.
United Airlines is reported to have lost $ 40 million daily due to the economic effects of the COVID-19 outbreak.
