New rules for industrial data promotion from Japan

1 min read

The Japanese government has announced that it will introduce new rules on R&D studies and the introduction of industrial “big data” from manufacturing, and aims to ensure the misuse and secure exchange of information gained with these new rules.

In the statement made, it is stated that if large amounts of data are brought together, it will be possible to produce innovative technologies.

Officials close to the government will discuss these new rules in a panel chaired by Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga, which is expected in July, and will implement new rules agreed in the spring of 2021, and regulate the laws in force in line with the decisions made.

It has been announced by sources that industrial big data will be collected from regions where automotive, industrial robots, medicine and some different production and development activities are carried out and that Japan has a competitive advantage in collecting physical data.

While data sharing is being tested in some smart factories and urban development projects, sharing industrial data by different companies makes it easier to produce new products, while it is planned to lead to development in different areas from autonomous vehicles to new types of coronavirus vaccines and even preventing spreading.

Firms that share their data raise concerns about data abuse and competitors’ use of similar products, while another concern is the exclusion of industrial big data from patents and copyright protections.
